NATURE IN THE CITY

Featuring the addition of a new southern wing, the Oregon branch of The Nature Conservancy renewed their existing building with elements consistent with Portland’s thriving architectural innovation and with strong ties to nature.

Arctic wrapped the existing tower with in-house fabricated corrugated panels from COR-TEN stainless steel, a unique alloy that forms a protective and durable layer of oxide. The impression the weathered panels gives is not unlike the bark of the towering Douglas Firs found throughout the Pacific Northwest’s great forests.

COR-TEN BRISE-SOLEIL

For the southern addition, a series of perforated COR-TEN triangular panels form the ‘Brise-Soleil’ that rings the front of the building and make up the most distinctive design element of the building. In total, five different patterns of random perforations were crafted and, with careful attention to detail in installation, give an organic and natural appearance.
